How I love this photo! My wee boy Jamie was only three here. Stripped half naked and running wild on the beautiful white sands of Luskentyre, on the Isle of Harris. It was a chilly day, but sunny, which is as much as we hope for when in Harris.
The water would have been freezing, too cold for an adult’s tentative toe, but for a small boy it was heavenly and the unbridled joy just shines out of him!
Originally I was looking for a quote about new beginnings, and toyed with ‘sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life’ or ‘what would you do if you weren’t afraid?’ but given that he’s a small boy standing on the edge of the sea, that step would likely have had him running out into deeper water towards that nonchalant seagull, the only fear in the situation would have been mine as his mother!
Instead, I chose this quote from the Dalai Lama, which I feel acknowledges my natural maternal anxiety, but counters it with hope and positivity. (Plus of course Jamie’s got his arms out like he wants to take off!)
