This is the first in a series of memes that I’m creating to showcase some of my favourite photos. Each original image is my own, overlaid with quotes or inspirational wording, or even sometimes a promotional sales message! I compose the final image in Canva, a free and simple web based design tool, which makes it really easy to keep a consistent style to each post.
The photo was taken on Lossiemouth East Beach. It was commissioned as a thank you from the owner of a cleaning business to one of her employees who was leaving the area. The lady who was leaving was famous for her ‘daps’, these beloved Converse All Stars, which had to be smuggled out for the photo shoot! The brief was to create an image that would remind her of her time in Lossie, so in this shot she’s ‘hanging up her daps’.
Here I’ve appropriated the image for my own use to portray new beginnings. The meme was used to announce the official launch of my business on Facebook with the accompanying text:

I’ve been quietly running my photography business (Alison Read Photography) for a while. This new venture builds on that, bringing in copywriting and simple graphic design – things that I’m good at and just love doing – and presenting them as a one stop content shop for small businesses in Moray.
